I am a Sydney-based freelance book designer who has worked with most of the publishers in Australia – and a few internationally – at some point in my 15-year career as a graphic designer.
I am a published author and the former art director of McGraw-Hill Australia and have won a number of awards.
In short, I am a type nerd, illustrator, designer, author, craft person, lecturer, friend, mum, daughter, vintage hoarder, fancy dresser, and socializer.
At length I have had the pleasure of collaborating with many talented editors, designers, publishers, photographers, stylists, project managers and authors in the Australian publishing industry during my 11-year career as a book designer.
Some of the publishers I have worked with include:
Penguin Random House
Allen & Unwin
Hardie Grant Books
Hardie Grant Egmont
Queensland University Press
Harlequin (Australia, North America, UK, Spain and France)
Oxford University Press
and Walker Books.
I pride myself on creating lovely books that answer my client’s briefs and the needs of their audience in creative, thoughtful and conceptual ways. I hand-draw type, scribble illustrations, source stock images and photographers, art direct photo shoots and push pixels around on screen until the final product is a thing of beauty.
I design and illustrate book covers, as well as concepting and typesetting internal text design.
I also illustrate books, from 6 book children’s series to Japanese inspired cookbooks.
Some of the genre’s of books I have designed for include:
Young Adult (single and series)
Children’s fiction and non-fiction (single and series)
Education (primary, secondary and tertiary)
